Windows 10 has officially reached EOL (End of Life)!
End of Life (EOL) refers to the date when Microsoft will stop providing support for Windows 10. This includes no longer offering technical assistance, software updates, or security patches.
Key Date:
What Happens After EOL?
Increased Security Risks:
Compatibility Issues
Performance Degradation:
Lack of Technical Support:
Increased Security Risks:
Compliance Issues:
Higher Maintenance Costs:
Operational Disruptions:
Good News and Bad News:
Changes for Individuals: Traditionally, extended updates were available only to businesses and organizations. This time, individuals can also purchase one year of ESU. However, businesses can opt for up to three additional years of updates, while individuals are limited to one year.
Cost for Businesses:
This pricing structure is designed to encourage businesses to upgrade to Windows 11 sooner rather than later. Schools benefit from a discounted rate: $1 for the first year, $2 for the second, and $4 for the third.
Conclusion: While ESU provides a temporary solution, it's clear that Microsoft aims to transition users to Windows 11. Investing in extended security updates may not be cost-effective compared to upgrading to a new PC.

Even after October 14, 2025, your Windows 10 PC will continue to operate. You'll be able to boot it up, use your applications, and perform everyday tasks. However, you will no longer receive security updates, and Windows may remind you that your system is less secure.
Despite this, we strongly advise against using an unsupported operating system. Whether it's a Windows 10 PC, an Android phone, or any other tech device, it's crucial to use systems that receive regular security updates to protect against online threats.
Many applications may continue to receive updates for a few more years. For instance, while Microsoft will stop supporting Microsoft 365 apps on Windows 10 after October 14, 2025, other companies might not be as quick to end support.
Google, for example, has not yet announced an end-of-support date for Google Chrome on Windows 10. Notably, Google supported Chrome on Windows 7 until January 2023, aligning with Microsoft's extended support period for businesses.

Windows 10 is nearing its end, and it's time to prepare for the transition. If you haven't upgraded to Windows 11 yet, you might want to consider it soon.
However, the situation isn't as straightforward as it seems. Despite its impending EOL, Windows 10 remains widely used. As of December 2024, about 63% of PCs worldwide still run Windows 10, compared to 34% for Windows 11. This is quite different from the transition from Windows 7 to Windows 10, where the newer OS had already gained significant ground a year before Windows 7's support ended.
Even though we are now in 2025, Windows 11 adoption is still lagging behind. This is an unusual scenario, and it raises questions about how Microsoft will handle the transition. There might be extended support options if Windows 10 continues to be widely used.
Microsoft is pushing for a faster adoption of Windows 11, with initiatives like "the year of the Windows 11 PC refresh." Whether this will be enough to move users from Windows 10 remains to be seen.
Even if Microsoft pushes for the transition, you have alternatives if you prefer to stick with your current setup.

Enhanced Security
Upgrading to Windows 11 ensures your system remains secure, efficient, and equipped with the latest features to enhance your productivity and user experience.
There are a few ways you can prepare for Windows 11.
Extended Security Updates (ESU): For businesses that need more time to transition, Microsoft offers Extended Security Updates (ESU) for a fee, providing critical security updates beyond the EOL date
Conclusion: The transition from Windows 10 to Windows 11 is essential to maintain security, performance, and compatibility. Planning ahead will ensure a smooth upgrade process and continued protection for your systems.
